SUNNYSIDEHouston Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting involving a suspect in Sunnyside.

It happened around 2:30 on Sunday morning in the 3100 block of Corksie Street. Houston Police officers were on a criminal mischief call nearby, when they heard gunshots. They left that scene and went to investigate. As they were walking around trying to determine where the shots came from, they came upon a car on Corksie with a window shot out.

Near that car, they encountered a man, who they say pulled out a gun and started shooting at the officers. HPD says two officers fired back and hit the man. They tried performing life saving measures before paramedics arrived, but the man died. As they were investigating that, HPD says another man showed up with gunshot wounds. Police also tried performing life saving measures on him, but he died.

Police are trying to figure out if there’s a connection between the two cases.

“The question is, what happened with the original shooting and then also the person who passed away. At this time we don’t know, that’s going to be part of the investigation,” says HPD Assistant Chief Yasar Bashir.

Police also recovered a semi automatic weapon at the scene. The two officers, who fired their guns, will be placed on administrative leave per department policy.

This is a developing story and will be updated as information comes in.
