$30K reward offered for information on road rage shooter who killed 19-year-old on Katy Freeway in September

HOUSTON, Texas – The parents of 19-year-old Cody Johnson are pleading for information following the tragic death of their son in a road rage shooting on Sept. 27.

The Johnson family, alongside law enforcement, is urging anyone with information or who may have been driving near the Katy Freeway last Friday night to come forward.

“No father, no mother, no family should have to go through this,” said Mike Johnson, Cody’s father. “Someone that happy shouldn’t be in a grave.”

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $30,000 for any information leading to the arrest of those responsible for Johnson’s death.

What happened

Johnson, of Missouri City, was killed in the 23600 block of the Katy Freeway on the westbound service road, near the Grand Parkway around 8 p.m.

He was driving a black Chevy Camaro with gold rims and was on his way to pick up his girlfriend after leaving a family member’s home.

Deputies said the teen was found outside of his parked car, unresponsive with gunshot wounds.

Since the shooting, no witnesses have come forward.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said while the investigation is ongoing, authorities are treating the case as a road rage incident. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear.

Anyone with details can contact Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477.
